2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

The 612 Scaglietti is Ferrari’s newest high-performance grand touring car which combines the performance of a Ferrari Berlinetta with comfortable seating for four occupants. The 2005 612 Scaglietti is a 4-seat coupe that replaces the 456M in the Ferrari lineup and features an all-aluminum space frame built by Ferrari at the Scaglietti light-alloy technologies facility that results in a 132-pound weight reduction over the 456M with a 60 percent increase in structural rigidity. The Pininfarina-designed body is 5.5 inches longer than the 456M and adds additional rear-seat legroom and headroom for increased passenger comfort. The trunk can accommodate five pieces of Ferrari luggage or two golf bags, not too shabby for the weekend warrior or daily driver for that matter.

The Scaglietti

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (Italian pronunciation: [skaʎˈʎetti]) is a grand tourer produced by Ferrari since 2004. It is a large two door fastback coupé. The 612 Scaglietti was designed to replace the smaller 456 M; its larger size makes it a true 4 seater with adequate space in the rear seats for adults.

Technical Specifications

The 2005 612 Scaglietti is powered by a 540-horsepower V12 engine mounted behind the front axle for a front mid-engine layout with both the transmission and the differential mounted at the rear axle to achieve a 46 percent/54 percent front/rear weight distribution. The 612 Scaglietti is offered with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or the next-generation F1 electro-hydraulic system that operates the clutch and changes gears when the driver flicks the paddles behind the steering wheel. The F1 electro-hydraulic system can operate in an automatic mode, but the transmission is still a mechanical unit containing a clutch.

Cool Facts

The design, especially the large side scallops and the headlights, pays homage to the custom 1954 Ferrari 375 MM that director Roberto Rossellini had commissioned for his wife, Ingrid Bergman.
